What should I do to help my criminal defense?

On Behalf of | Apr 21, 2017 | Uncategorized

Facing a criminal charge isn’t anything that is easy. Instead, you have to work hard on your defense so that you can have the opportunity to tell your side of what happened.

When you start planning your defense, you can’t just base it off of what you think you should say. Instead, your defense has to be based on facts.

Should I be honest with my defense attorney?

You should always be honest with your defense attorney, even if this means that you have to confess what you did to the attorney. Failing to tell your attorney the truth can mean that you don’t get the defense strategy options that are appropriate for your case. It also means that your defense attorney might not be able to gather the evidence necessary to support your defense.

What factors can impact my defense?

Everything you say to the police officers you deal with regarding your case can have an impact on your defense strategy. Remember to invoke your rights as necessary to ensure that you aren’t working against yourself. You should also think carefully before you make any statements outside of your case. Witness statements can have a huge impact on a criminal case.

No matter what you do, your first step in any criminal defense case has to be protecting your interests. This means invoking your rights and exploring all of your options before you take any action. You must make sure that you are comfortable with your attorney so that you can start working on a defense based on the facts of the case.
